President William Ruto has today announced that youths enrolled in the Kazi Mtaani program, which he abolished for being outdated, will now be given tree planting jobs.
Ruto said this in line with his goal to plant 1 million trees in the next five years in a move to upscale the fight against climate change and boost agricultural production.
The President said each of the government officials will be mandated with planting trees alongside Kenyans.
“The government shall join all Kenyan citizens to plant 5 million trees in the next five years. Each one of us, the County Governments. the National Governments. all the other agencies, the private sector, and all other business traders, shall join hands to plant trees to restore our rivers and get rainfall again,” he said.
Ruto said the tree planting initiative will provide employment to youths as well as help in fighting drought .
