Former Mautuma Ward MCA Stephen Mulonga has accused the current ward representative, Charles Anyona, of abandoning the residents and failing to work with local administrators, saying the leadership in place has “totally failed the people.”

In an exclusive interview with Western Kenya Times (WKT), Mulonga said Mautuma Ward had lost direction under Anyona’s watch.

“The current leadership has totally failed the people,” he said. “The MCA is not working together with the administration, which sets a bad example for the residents. He has lost direction.”

Mulonga’s remarks come just weeks after Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera reportedly endorsed him for the 2027 elections during the launch of the Last Mile electricity project in the Sale area, Mautuma Ward. According to Mulonga, the MP publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the current leadership, saying:

“The current MCA is not close to the people, and you are the person I will work with.”

The former MCA, who served between 2017 and 2022, said Nabwera’s endorsement reflects a shift in political sentiment among residents who, he claims, are frustrated with Anyona’s leadership style and lack of engagement.

Mulonga confirmed he will contest for the Mautuma Ward seat in the 2027 general election but has yet to decide on which political party to join. He was previously elected on an Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket before the party was absorbed into the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Beyond politics, Mulonga urged local leaders and authorities to unite in the fight against illicit brews, warning that the growing menace continues to destroy the lives of young people in the community.
