Trans Nzoia leaders’ wish ahead of Ruto visit

Ruto will be visiting the region today.

Leaders in Trans Nzoia County are looking forward to a solution to some of their problems as President William Ruto pays a visit today in a two-day working tour.

The President is visiting the county to launch the farmers’ registration drive to enable the use of e-voucher system in accessing subsidized fertilizer, before he proceeds to the installation of Father Henry Juma Odonya as the new Bishop of Kitale Catholic Diocese.

The farmers believe the system will lock out cartels who have been sabotaging the input and produce market, leading to poor yields and less profits.

Apart from that, Trans Nzoia leaders want Ruto to hive off 1,000 acres of land from Namandala Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) farms and establish a public university in the county.

The leaders also want resettlement of more than 60,000 squatters and internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in markets and road reserves.

They also want the national government to build the Maili Tisa-Kobos-Kapomboi road to make transportation and trade effective, apart from the operationalization of the County Referral Hospital, which requires Sh2.5 million.
