Two feared dead as two trucks burst into flames near Turbo

Two people are feared dead after two trucks collided and burst into flames in Mwamba, a few metres from Turbo Market, along the Eldoret–Malaba highway on Tuesday night.

The incident has been confirmed by West TV and West FM’s Joseph Amunya Otieno.

The accident, which occurred at around 8 p.m., triggered a massive fire that lit up the night sky, sending residents fleeing for safety as explosions rocked the area. Witnesses described the scene as “mvua ya moto” (rain of fire) as the two trucks burned fiercely.

According to preliminary reports, the two who lost their lives are believed to be the drivers of the tankers. Their bodies are yet to be recovered from the wreckage as police and firefighters continue efforts to put out the flames and secure the area.

The cause of the collision remains unclear.

Residents have called on the government to enhance road safety measures along the Eldoret–Malaba highway, a major route known for heavy truck traffic and frequent accidents.
