Macho Comprehensive School in Mautuma Ward, Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, is celebrating a major milestone after three of its Grade Nine girls secured scholarship opportunities through their footballing talent.
Marion Nekesa, Ann Nangila, and Esther Dinah earned the opportunities to join the Archbishop Njenga Girls Senior School football team next year after impressing during the Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament held in Bungoma County.
Their achievement highlights the school’s efforts to nurture talent beyond the classroom, building on its record of academic performance. Speaking to the Western Kenya Times, Head of Institution Protus Sisa congratulated the girls, saying their success had brought pride to the school and the wider community.
“They have made us proud. We wish them all the best, and they have our blessings. Let them go and enjoy their talents,” Sisa said. Another Grade Nine learner, Mitchel Musanga, is also hopeful of securing an opportunity to join the team.
Scholarship offers hope for Nangila
For Nangila, the opportunity carries particular significance because it could ease the financial burden of pursuing her education.
The learner, who lost her mother and currently lives with her grandmother, said the scholarship would cover her education next year, allowing her to continue schooling with less financial pressure on her family.

Beyond football, Nangila also participates in athletics, making her a promising talent across multiple sporting disciplines. She thanked the school administration and her coaches for believing in the girls and helping them showcase their abilities.
“It is a great source of pride. I thank my school, Macho Comprehensive Muslim School; the Head of Institution, Mr. Protus Sisa; and my coaches for trusting us and helping us showcase our talent. We are grateful, and we assure them that we will do our best to make them proud,” she told WKT.
The Safaricom Chapa Dimba tournament is expected to continue in Embu during the 2027 edition.
