The son of late reggae hypeman MC Fullstop has sparked heated debate on social media after sharp remarks targeting his stepfather went viral online.
The young man, popularly known as Andy Mjeshi on social media, trended after clips and screenshots from a podcast circulated online, with users accusing him of referring to his stepfather as “weak.”
The remarks allegedly came after his stepdad tried to warn him against drug abuse, particularly the use of bhang.
“Nikiwa mtoi sikuwahi kumheshimu my stepfather, lakini baadaye kabla Mjeshi (MC Fullstop) akufe, nilijaribu kumheshimu kwa sababu nilikuwa nataka kumuweka kwenye ile space ya: ‘Niaje, si unajua wewe si babangu.’ Lakini sasa unajua vile kudeal na weak man ni ngumu. Mbona stepfather alikubali kunilea? Si angepima DNA test? Tunaambia mabuda sai waende wapime DNA test. Wewe unanilea miaka 20 na mimi sio mtoi wako?”
A section of social media users defended the stepfather, saying calmness and emotional restraint should not be mistaken for weakness. Others criticised Andy for allegedly disrespecting a man believed to have played a parental role in his life.
The controversy has evolved into a wider conversation about masculinity, fatherhood and the challenges facing blended families in modern society. Some online users argued that many young people today associate aggression and dominance with strength, while others insisted emotional maturity is equally important in fatherhood.
Andy Mjeshi has remained in the public eye since the death of MC Fullstop, whose real name was John Maina. He previously moved Kenyans during the reggae icon’s burial after delivering an emotional tribute describing his father as a source of inspiration and strength.
The late MC Fullstop was widely respected in Kenya’s entertainment scene and was mourned by fans and fellow entertainers following his death after a long illness. Since his passing, members of his family have occasionally attracted online attention due to emotional tributes and viral social media moments.
