Opposition heavyweights launch three-day Western Kenya tour as Gachagua, Kalonzo join rally

The Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) and allied opposition leaders are set to kick off a major three-day political tour of Western Kenya starting Friday  in a high-profile rally expected to feature Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua.

The tour, dubbed “Karibu Ingo,” is also expected to unite several key opposition figures, among them Eugene Wamalwa, Martha Karua, Fred Matiang’i and George Natembeya, among others.

Other leaders featured in the mobilisation campaign include Justin Muturi, Peter Salasya, Caleb Amisi, Wafula Wamunyinyi, Cleophas Malala and Eseli Simiyu.

According to the itinerary obtained by WKT, the opposition team will begin its engagements in Vihiga County on Friday with stops in Luanda, Khwirumbi, Khayega, Malava, Mayuge and Shikomari. On Saturday, the leaders are expected to hold rallies and meetings in Shianda, Bumala, Nambale, Harambee Market and Ekitale Town, alongside a scheduled media briefing.

The final day of the tour on Sunday will cover Kibabii, Chwele, Misikhu, Naitiri, Kiminini and Kitale Town.

The planned Western Kenya tour comes amid intensified political realignments within the opposition as leaders continue to popularise “Wantam” campaigns against President William Ruto’s administration ahead of the 2027 general election.
