A boda boda rider died in a tragic road accident in Bungoma town after reportedly losing control of his motorcycle while racing with another rider on Monday at around 6:20 PM.
According to witnesses, the rider attempted to evade a white lorry but crashed into its rear before being thrown onto the tarmac. He suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot.
His body lay in a pool of blood as shocked residents and passers-by gathered at the scene. The lorry stopped immediately after the crash, while police officers from Bungoma Police Station responded to the incident and later removed the body for transfer to the mortuary.
Police have since launched investigations into the incident, with officers working to establish the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
Authorities warned boda boda riders against reckless racing and urged them to observe traffic rules, especially within busy urban centres where pedestrian movement is high during evening hours.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination and identification by family members.
Residents have once again raised concerns over rising cases of motorcycle-related accidents in the area, calling for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations and increased rider sensitization programs.
