President William Ruto has announced the start of a nationwide consultation process to develop Kenya’s next long-term development blueprint, saying the country must begin planning for its future as the Vision 2030 agenda nears its conclusion.
In a Special National Address delivered from State House on Thursday evening, the President said Kenya stands at a critical point in its development journey and must collectively define the country’s priorities for the decades ahead.
Ruto revealed that the government will officially launch a national conversation on August 12, bringing together citizens, professionals, county governments, businesses, civil society, young people and other stakeholders to help craft a new national vision. He said the process will ensure the next development agenda reflects the aspirations of all Kenyans rather than those of a few policymakers.
The President noted that while Vision 2030 has guided the country’s development for nearly two decades and delivered significant gains in infrastructure, public services and economic growth, it is time to prepare a successor that responds to emerging opportunities and challenges.
He said the new blueprint will seek to position Kenya as a more competitive, innovative and prosperous nation by focusing on sustainable economic growth, industrialisation, quality jobs, technological advancement and stronger public institutions.
Ruto’s announcement follows the submission of a report by a team of scholars and policy experts tasked with proposing strategic directions for Kenya’s development beyond Vision 2030. He described the report as an important foundation for the national discussions but stressed that the final vision should be shaped through broad public participation.
The Head of State urged Kenyans from all walks of life to take part in the consultations, saying the country’s future should be built on a shared vision that transcends political administrations and creates lasting prosperity for future generations.
