Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has intensified his political mobilisation in Western Kenya, using a Linda Mwananchi rally in Busia County to declare his readiness to seek the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna addressed residents in Butula on Friday, August 7, 2026, during the movement’s “Meet the People” tour, which brought together a number of opposition-aligned leaders and supporters.
The senator argued that he has gained sufficient political experience during his first term in the Senate to take on the country’s top leadership position. He suggested that effective leadership should not be judged solely by the number of years one has spent in politics, but also by wisdom, integrity and the ability to respond to citizens’ concerns.
His remarks came as the Linda Mwananchi movement seeks to expand its grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 elections. The movement had scheduled engagements in Butula and Nambale, targeting local residents, youth, boda boda operators, traders and other community groups.
During the Butula rally, Sifuna also stepped up his criticism of President William Ruto, accusing the administration of failing to meet its promises to Kenyans.
“Mr. President huwa unasema sisi hatuna akili, nataka nikuambie, wewe ndio huna akili,” he said.
He maintained that the campaign against Ruto was not motivated by personal differences, but what he described as dissatisfaction with the President’s performance in office. Sifuna said the movement would work to ensure Ruto does not remain in State House beyond the 2027 election.
The Busia tour also featured other opposition figures, including Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo, as the movement seeks to consolidate support across Western Kenya.
The latest mobilisation is part of a broader three-day Western Kenya tour by the Linda Mwananchi team. The group is expected to proceed to Kakamega on Saturday as it seeks to strengthen its grassroots network and position itself ahead of the 2027 political contest.
The growing political activity in Western Kenya comes as both government and opposition-linked formations intensify efforts to win support in a region expected to play a significant role in the 2027 elections.
For Sifuna and Linda Mwananchi, the Busia rally provided another platform to test their grassroots appeal while presenting the movement as an alternative political force ahead of the next General Election.
