Boni Khalwale’s wife Gloria Sekeiyan dies after sudden heart attack

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale is mourning the death of his wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, who died suddenly on Saturday morning, August 15, 2026.

Khalwale announced Gloria’s death in a statement shared on social media, saying she suddenly collapsed and died after suffering a heart attack.

“My dear wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, has this morning suddenly collapsed and died after a heart attack,” Khalwale said.

The senator described Gloria as the mother of their eight children and named them as Engine Kukaste, Olivia Sabayi, Flavia Shimuli, Gift Atubukha, Meliza Khamwenyi, Velma Nasiebanda, Sonia Inuni and Maura Makatse Khalwale.

Details about whether Gloria had been receiving treatment for any underlying condition before her death had not been disclosed by the senator as of Saturday afternoon.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who has recently worked with Khalwale in the Linda Mwananchi political movement, sent his condolences, asking God to comfort the senator and his family. Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa also mourned Gloria, describing her death as a sudden loss to the family.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Bumula MP Jack Wamboka were also among leaders who expressed shock and extended condolences to Khalwale and his children.

Gloria’s death comes nearly seven years after Khalwale lost his first wife, Adelaide Khalwale, who died in October 2019 at the family home in Malinya, Ikolomani. Adelaide had battled cancer and later developed pulmonary hypertension.

The circumstances surrounding Gloria’s death, including funeral arrangements, were not immediately announced.

The Khalwale family is expected to issue further details as relatives, friends and political leaders continue to gather to mourn her passing.
