It could have been a much grimmer story if any of the five family members in Sipande village, Mautuma Ward in Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, had been inside their home on Monday when strong winds swept through the area, uprooting a tree that crashed through the house and split it into two.
A resident who contacted WKT to report the incident says the family has yet to receive any immediate assistance, despite the presence of local welfare groups, religious leaders and administrators who could potentially mobilise support. The family is now forced to continue living in the wreckage of what was once their home.
The affected household belongs to Jacob Khasavuli Werunga, who lives with his wife and their three children. The fallen tree remains on the compound, while the family is in need of assistance to remove it and reconstruct their home.
According to the neighbour, efforts to seek help have so far not yielded any assistance.
The family is now appealing to well-wishers, community members and local leaders to help remove the fallen tree and provide support towards rebuilding their house.
The neighbour said the situation requires urgent intervention, particularly because the family has been left without a safe home for several days.
