Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced that supporters of the Linda Mwananchi movement raised more than KSh500,000 within 12 hours of the launch of the movement’s public paybill.
Sifuna introduced Paybill Number 3033049 during a radio interview on Tuesday, calling on Kenyans to make voluntary contributions, regardless of the amount, to support the movement’s activities.
He encouraged citizens to donate even as little as KSh10, saying the initiative is built on the belief that many small contributions can collectively sustain a people-driven political movement.
According to the senator, the overwhelming response saw supporters contribute over KSh519,000 in the first 12 hours, a milestone he described as a demonstration of growing public confidence in the movement.
The lawmaker explained that the paybill is registered under his name because Linda Mwananchi has not yet been formally registered as a political party or organization, making it impossible to open an official institutional account.
Sifuna said all funds raised will be used to facilitate the movement’s activities, including organizing public engagements, meeting logistical costs, paying service providers, and supporting members facing emergencies while participating in the movement’s programs.
He maintained that the fundraising initiative reflects a commitment to citizen-funded politics, arguing that relying on small donations from ordinary Kenyans promotes accountability and reduces dependence on wealthy political financiers.
The successful fundraiser comes at a time when Sifuna’s political profile continues to grow ahead of the 2027 general election. In recent days, several leaders and supporters have publicly backed calls for grassroots fundraising to support his political ambitions, with proposals urging thousands of Kenyans to contribute modest amounts through public fundraising platforms.
