Thousands of residents lined the streets of Kitale on Saturday as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna led the Linda Mwananchi movement in a series of political engagements across Trans Nzoia County, drawing large crowds as the ahead of the movement’s Western Kenya tour kicked off in pomp and colour.
The delegation, which was welcomed by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya upon arrival, featured a host of opposition leaders including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo.
The leaders made stopovers in Moi’s Bridge and Sibanga before converging at Mwangaza Grounds in Kitale town for the day’s main rally, where supporters turned out in large numbers waving flags and chanting slogans in support of the opposition movement.
Addressing the gathering, Sifuna said the Linda Mwananchi movement would continue engaging wananchi on governance, accountability and the high cost of living while preparing for the 2027 general election. He also disclosed that the movement had raised approximately KSh3 million through public contributions in less than three days, insisting that it would rely on support from ordinary Kenyans rather than wealthy financiers.
Governor Natembeya urged residents to support the movement, describing it as a platform advocating constitutionalism and better governance. During the event, he also introduced Pauline Njoroge as the movement’s head of communications following her recent departure from the Jubilee Party.
The Kitale rally marked another major stop in Linda Mwananchi’s nationwide grassroots campaign, which has seen the movement hold political meetings across several counties in recent months.
The delegation will proceed to Bungoma County on Sunday, where Sifuna is expected to headline his highly anticipated homecoming rally after attending a church service in Kiminini.
