Kivaywa Boys High School in Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County, has asked parents and guardians to contribute Sh11,000 each towards the reconstruction of a dormitory gutted in a fire last month.
In a copy of a letter seen by WKT, the school said the Harambee Dormitory, burnt down following an arson incident on July 5, was assessed by the Ministry of Public Works, which placed the cost of rebuilding it at Sh11,601,209.32.
Following a Board of Management (BoM) meeting held on August 19, the school resolved that each parent or guardian would contribute Sh11,000 towards the reconstruction.

The school has directed parents to make the payment through a paybill number and forward the M-Pesa confirmation message to their son’s class teacher as proof of payment by Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the date schools are expected to reopen for Term Three.
The appeal comes amid a series of tense developments, including a meeting between parents and Principal Lichuma Wamalwa, as well as the suspension of students suspected of involvement.
