A 68-year-old man was on Thursday morning found dead inside his house in Lukhuna Village, Mbagara Sub-Location, Mautuma Ward, Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County.
The deceased, identified as Machoni Sieni, had been living alone since the devastating death of his wife two years ago, according to area village elder Joseph Mwanje.
Sieni, whose body was found hanging from the roof of his house, left behind a note listing debts he wanted his family to settle.
“There was a person who had been storing his farm equipment in Sieni’s house. When he entered the house, he looked for Sieni but could not find him. This prompted him to continue searching for him, and that is when he found him hanging from the roof using a Manila rope,” Mwanje told WKT.
The incident has raised concern in the village, coming barely four months after another young man was found hanging at the home of a resident in the same area.
Mwanje urged residents facing difficult circumstances to seek counselling, advice and support from trusted people rather than facing their struggles alone.
The circumstances surrounding Sieni’s death remain unclear as police continue investigations.
Officers from Panpaper Police Station removed the body and transferred it to the Village of Hope Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending further investigations.
