What began as playful social media banter has now moved from the phone screen to the classroom.
President William Ruto’s son, George Ruto, on Tuesday visited Westlands Primary School in Nairobi, where he finally met teacher and content creator Tr Cillah, whose humorous pursuit of him had dominated Kenyan social media in recent weeks.
The much-anticipated encounter brought together a story that had entertained thousands of Kenyans online and the work that first drew George’s attention to Cillah, her role as an educator supporting pupils at the school.
George was received at the school before proceeding to meet Cillah and other members of the teaching staff. The highlight of the visit came when he warmly embraced Cillah, prompting laughter and excitement among those present.
Cillah, visibly delighted by the unexpected moment, thanked George for making the trip before joking that they would continue their conversation privately. The light-hearted exchange immediately became another talking point online, with images and videos from the visit quickly circulating across social media.
From Instagram jokes to a real-life meeting
The meeting comes after weeks of viral exchanges between Cillah and George.
Cillah first attracted widespread attention after publicly expressing her interest in marrying George following the high-profile traditional wedding celebrations involving his sister, Charlene Ruto. She subsequently turned the joke into a running social media storyline, imagining everything from a wedding to becoming “Mrs GK.”
George eventually joined the banter, at one point asking Cillah for her Teachers Service Commission number, a response that sent the online conversation into another gear.
The playful exchanges became so popular that George was eventually asked publicly whether the two could actually become a couple.
But George made it clear that the online jokes should not be mistaken for a marriage arrangement. Speaking at the Miss International Kenya 2026 event on August 22, he described the relationship speculation as “social media hype”, noting that marriage is a lifelong commitment and not something two people can simply agree to through social media.
George discovers the teacher behind the viral jokes
Away from the romance jokes, however, George said he had learned more about Cillah and discovered another side of her life.
He revealed that Cillah works with pupils, including children with special needs, at Westlands Primary School.
Rather than allowing the viral story to end with social media jokes, George said he planned to visit the school and support the learners with football equipment, learning materials and other forms of assistance.
