Celebrated gospel artist Vincent Onyango, alias Vincent Senior, has died in a road accident in a cruel twist of fate that saw his father pass away on the very same night.
The 43-year-old singer, best known for the hit songs Kaburi ni Tajiri and Wanadamu ni Walewale, was travelling alone from Mombasa to Nairobi when his vehicle collided head-on with a lorry at Chumvi in Machakos on Tuesday night.
He died instantly, leaving behind six children and cutting short a career that had earned him a devoted following among gospel music fans across the country.
A family torn by double tragedy
News of Onyango’s death was confirmed by a source close to him, who added that his father died at his home in Siaya County the same Tuesday night in ICU following a battle with illness.
Onyango’s body was taken to Machakos Mortuary before being transferred to Nairobi, where his family is now making arrangements to lay him to rest.
Onyango kept a home in Ruai along Kangundo Road, though his roots trace back to Siaya County. A postmortem examination is expected to be conducted on Thursday, after which the family will communicate burial arrangements.
