Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has met former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County in a politically significant engagement that could shape opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The meeting took place on Tuesday shortly after Gachagua quietly returned to Kenya following nearly two months in the United States.

Sifuna led a delegation of leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.

Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), welcomed the delegation alongside his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, and other political allies.

“Welcome to Wamunyoro residence, my cousins from Linda Mwananchi. When we come together, great things must happen,” Gachagua said in a message accompanying photographs of the meeting.

The engagement comes amid growing calls for opposition leaders to unite ahead of the next election, with discussions emerging around a possible political partnership between Gachagua and Sifuna.

Gachagua has previously expressed willingness to support Sifuna’s presidential ambitions or serve as his running mate if such an arrangement would strengthen the opposition’s chances against President William Ruto in 2027.

Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has also been advocating for a possible alliance between the two leaders. However, members of the Linda Mwananchi secretariat have disputed claims that Malala facilitated the latest meeting, maintaining that Sifuna has direct access to Gachagua.

In a statement following the engagement, Sifuna thanked Gachagua and his wife for hosting the delegation, expressing hope that the meeting would lead to further engagements aimed at fostering opposition unity.

“We believe this is the first of many engagements that will foster unity within the opposition as we gear up for the General Elections. Mbele kuzuri,” Sifuna stated.
