Douglas Opijah continues school uniform donation drive, support for women groups

Aspiring Lugari Ward MCA Douglas Opijah on Monday donated school uniforms to pupils at Lugari Neema Integrated Learning Centre in Mufutu Village, continuing a drive for learners from needy backgrounds that he launched under the Douglas Opijah Foundation, founded in 2016.

Opijah was the guest of honour at the school’s graduation ceremony for Pre-Primary Two (PP2) pupils, where he addressed parents and the wider school community, saying investing in education is the surest path to a safer ward.

“Education must come first. When we have an educated population, we will have a more secure society, with fewer cases of insecurity in Lugari Ward. Let us educate our children, fellow parents,” he said.

Through the initiative, Opijah has supported more than 1,000 learners across six schools in the ward with uniforms, stationery, bursaries, and other assistance.

The businessman later met women at Lugari Station as part of his grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 General Election, pledging to ensure that every resident of the ward is represented and that their concerns are heard and addressed.
