Flood death toll hits 103 as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc

The number of people who have died due to floods in Kenya has climbed to 103, following 15 additional fatalities reported by police.

According to the National Police Service, the latest deaths were recorded in several regions across the country, including Nyanza, Western, Rift Valley, Eastern and Central, all of which have been heavily affected by ongoing rains.

The persistent downpour has triggered widespread flooding, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Homes have been submerged, roads rendered impassable, and entire communities displaced as rivers burst their banks.

Police have urged residents living in flood-prone and low-lying areas to remain alert and take precautionary measures, including moving to safer ground when advised. They emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines issued by authorities to avoid further loss of life.

Meanwhile, emergency response teams are continuing with rescue operations and providing assistance to affected families. Hundreds of households have already been displaced, with many seeking refuge in safer locations.

The government has also maintained that it is closely monitoring the situation, warning that the death toll could rise if the heavy rains persist.

Kenyans have been encouraged to report emergencies through official channels, including the national emergency numbers, as efforts to respond to the disaster intensify.
