Regina Njeri, a second-year law student at Moi University, was on Thursday found dead in her apartment at Annex Shopping Centre in Eldoret, just days before she was due to appear before the university Senate.
The 20-year-old’s body was discovered hanging from the door grill of her rented house in the Sugunanga area. She is reported to have used a leso, and a note believed to be a suicide message was recovered, in which she apologised and expressed love for those close to her.
Reports indicate that her mother had unsuccessfully tried to reach her by phone before contacting her friends to check on her. It was during this visit that the tragic discovery was made.
The motive behind the incident remains unclear. Police have since moved the body to the morgue as investigations continue, pending a post-mortem examination.
