At least ten people have died following a tragic road accident near Gilgil along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru highway on Saturday.
The fatal crash is reported to have occurred near the Kariandusi area after a passenger matatu rammed into a stalled trailer. The impact was severe, leaving several occupants dead on the spot.
Emergency responders and police officers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, launching rescue operations and transferring the injured to nearby health facilities. Authorities are yet to release the identities of the victims as investigations continue.

Preliminary reports indicate that the trailer had broken down and was stationary on the road at the time of the crash. Poor visibility and the lack of proper warning signs are suspected to have contributed to the accident.
The Nairobi–Nakuru highway remains one of the country’s busiest and most dangerous roads, with frequent accidents often linked to heavy traffic and stalled vehicles.
The stretch near Kariandusi has previously been flagged as a high-risk zone, raising renewed concerns over road safety and enforcement measures.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the accident.
