Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has publicly outlined his burial wishes, stating that he wants to be laid to rest within 48 hours of his death and without any involvement from the government.
Speaking during a press briefing, Tuju said he has already communicated his preferences to his family, stressing that his send-off should be simple and free from state participation.
“I have made it very clear to my family that when I die, I should be buried within 48 hours. I do not want any state involvement in my funeral,” he said.
Tuju indicated that his position is informed by recent funerals of prominent Kenyans that were conducted within short timelines, arguing that prolonged burial arrangements are unnecessary.
His remarks come amid ongoing legal and political developments surrounding his recent arrest and claims of abduction, allegations he has denied while accusing security agencies of mistreatment.
The former minister’s sentiments have drawn mixed reactions, with some Kenyans viewing them as a personal decision, while others interpret them as a broader statement on state involvement in the affairs of public figures.
