Students and staff at Kibabii University are grappling with a water shortage following technical challenges affecting supply from the institution’s sole provider, Bungoma Water and Sewerage Company (BWASCO).
In an internal memo dated April 17, 2026, the university administration confirmed the disruption, attributing it to issues experienced by BWASCO. The notice, issued by the Office of the Registrar (Administration and Human Resource), urged members of the university community to remain patient as efforts to restore normal supply continue.
To mitigate the crisis, the Estates Department has begun pumping spring water into closets and utilizing rainwater stored in external tanks for cleaning and washing purposes. Meanwhile, water delivered by bowsers is being strictly reserved for designated drinking points.
University officials acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the shortage but assured students and staff that measures are being taken to address the situation as quickly as possible.
The shortage comes at a time when reliable access to water remains critical for hygiene and daily operations within learning institutions.
