Chesamisi Boys High School in Kimilili, Bungoma County, will reopen next week on Monday, June 8, 2026, following its temporary closure after student unrest that resulted in the destruction of school property.

According to a circular issued by the school’s Board of Management and dated June 2, 2026, each learner will be required to pay a penalty fee of KSh 3,000 to cater for damages caused during the unrest that occurred on May 26, 2026.

The memo states that the decision was reached during a meeting held on May 29 involving the school’s Board of Management, officials from the Ministry of Education, and members of the security team.

The school has announced a phased reopening schedule, with Form One students expected to report on June 8, Form Three students on June 9, and Form Four students on June 10.

School administrators have also directed that all outstanding Term II fees must be cleared before students are readmitted. In addition, parents or guardians will be required to accompany learners when reporting back to school.

The administration further noted that it had engaged affected farmers and settled issues after students destroyed sugarcane crops during the unrest that resulted from losing the zonal football final against rivals St. Peter’s Nakalira Boys, which led to the destruction of other property within the school.

“We appreciate your cooperation and continued support as we avoid rumors and speculation,” the memo signed by Principal and Board Secretary Protus Ndombi reads in part.
