Isaac Andabwa, the Secretary-General of the Kenya National Private Security Workers Union (KNPSWU), has called on the people of Lugari to take their voting power seriously and choose leaders committed to genuine development.

Speaking exclusively to the Western Kenya Times (WKT), Andabwa encouraged residents not to lose hope, reminding them that meaningful change is in their hands.

“There is power in your vote. For 2027, prepare well. It might be me; it might be anyone else. Make your vote work by choosing the right person, someone with a dream, someone people-friendly, someone who respects his employers, the wananchi,” he said.

Seeming to direct his message to Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera, Andabwa said, “You cannot threaten or kill your employers. They are the ones who gave you a chance to go to Parliament for the first time. They must be respected.”

The SG has been leading the push for justice after the disturbing death of Munyuki Secondary School principal, Simon Isiaho Shange, whose body was discovered in the Kipkaren River under unclear and suspicious circumstances.

Andabwa, pointing to the incident, emphasized that leaders have a duty to inspire and appreciate the citizens rather than intimidate them. He urged Lugari residents to unite and choose an ambitious, selfless leader who will make the constituency “a home for all.”

He also criticized the current Lugari MP, accusing him of prioritizing personal gain over public service.

“There are many ills in Lugari. What is happening is unacceptable,” he said. “As Lugarians, it is time to unite and cut down the roots of poor leadership. You want to be the supplier of timber, of sukuma wiki, and of groundnuts to the market and still be in charge of CDF? What is that? It is unfortunate. We must fix this once and for all come 2027.”

Andabwa further noted that leadership outcomes ultimately depend on God’s plan but stressed that Lugari voters must make independent decisions free from external influence. He claimed that the current MP, Nabii Nabwera, was brought into Lugari politics by the late Raila Odinga and former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

“It is the people of Lugari who should decide their leader, not outsiders,” he said. “Savula and Oparanya are the ones who brought Nabii to Lugari. He tried several times without success, and they forced him on Lugari. People should wake up and vote for someone who is ready and willing to uplift their lives.”

He raised concerns over the state of education in the constituency, saying investment should directly uplift the people. “Our education sector is in crisis. We cannot have a leader who disrespects teachers; a teacher is the pillar of any society,” he added.

Responding to questions about whether he will vie for the Lugari parliamentary seat, Andabwa—who has also been rumored to harbor ambitions of succeeding Tim Wanyonyi as Westlands MP—said he is still weighing his options. He added that his only wish is for Lugari to choose better leadership, whether it ends up being him or someone else.

As the political season gains momentum, the responsibility now lies with the people of Lugari to reflect on the future they want for their constituency. Whether they rally behind Andabwa or another candidate, he insists that the ultimate goal should be transformative leadership rooted in integrity, respect, and service to the community.
