Assistant chief leads exercise to destroy 40 litres of illicit brew in Mbagara, Lugari

Lugari, Kakamega – In a decisive move against illegal alcohol, Joseline Juma, the Assistant Chief of Mbagara Sub-Location in Mautuma Location of Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, confiscated and destroyed 40 litres of illicit brew at the homestead of Sarah Masicha in Bituyu A Village earlier this morning.

Ms. Juma stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate illegal alcohol in the area, safeguard community welfare, and restore order.

“The Government of Kenya has banned illicit brews because they have contributed to family breakdowns, poor academic performance among children, and a negative societal image. We will continue fighting this menace until the community is fully cleansed and restored,” she told the Western Kenya Times.

The assistant chief was joined by several village elders during the operation, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in combating illegal alcohol trade.

This action aligns with broader national efforts to curb illicit brews, which have been linked to health hazards, domestic violence, and social unrest in many regions across the country.

Local authorities continue to encourage residents to report illegal brewing activities and participate in initiatives aimed at creating a safer, healthier community.
