The Lugari Sub-County KSSSA tournament concludes today as four top teams clash in the finals, all eyeing the coveted title and a chance to represent Lugari at the county games scheduled for Butere-Mumias in two weeks.
In the boys’ football final, Munyuki Secondary School will lock horns with Talent Academy after both sides impressed in the semi-finals. Munyuki secured their spot with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chekalini Secondary School, while Talent Academy edged past St. Paul’s Boys Lugari 1-0 to book their place in the decisive encounter.
For Lugari Boys, it is another season cut short, with their hopes of returning to top-tier competition once again falling short despite determined efforts to mount a comeback.
The girls’ football category will see Archbishop Njenga Girls National Senior School–Lugari take on Talent Girls in the final showdown. ABN stormed into the final in emphatic fashion after thrashing Lwanda Lugari Secondary School 7-0 in a one-sided semi-final clash.
Speaking to WKT, Lugari Sub-County KSSSA Chairman Edwin Weteta praised the discipline exhibited throughout the tournament and credited local fans for creating a vibrant atmosphere.
“The tournament has been a success largely because of the support from fans. We estimate that over 5,000 spectators attended the matches, and their enthusiasm played a huge role in making the competition memorable,” Weteta said.
He also commended the County Government of Kakamega for developing the Panpaper Grounds, saying the modern facility greatly contributed to the smooth organisation of the tournament.
Weteta expressed optimism ahead of the finals, promising thrilling matches and urging football lovers to turn out in large numbers to cheer on their teams.
