Lugari, Kakamega County – Tension gripped Misanga B Village in Mbagara Sub-location, Mautuma Ward, Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County after residents apprehended a suspected motorcycle thief in the early hours of the morning, who was later killed.
The suspect, identified by locals as Junior, was cornered at around 2:10 a.m. while allegedly attempting to steal a motorcycle belonging to a man identified as Elvis Midojiro.
His arrest followed what eyewitnesses described as a night-long pursuit by members of the public, who had reportedly been tracking his movements.
According to residents, the suspect had been on the run for several hours before he was finally subdued. He was later taken to Soy, where it is believed he had been transporting stolen items.
Items recovered from the suspect included a television set and a woofer, which authorities suspect may have been stolen from previous incidents within the area.
The incident was confirmed by Misanga B Village Elder Mary Seringo, who said the matter has since been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
Cases of theft, particularly targeting motorcycles and household electronics, have been on the rise in parts of Lugari, prompting residents to remain vigilant and work closely with local security teams.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with more details expected to emerge.
