Man kills neighbor in deadly dispute over Napier grass in Kabuchai

Tension remains high in Siuna village, Kabuchai Constituency, Bungoma County, after a man was killed following a dispute over grass cutting in a neighbour’s sugarcane plantation.

The deceased, identified as Simiyu Right, was allegedly attacked and killed by Jacob Mlongo Mauko after he entered Mauko’s farm to cut grass without permission. 

According to reports, the confrontation escalated on Saturday morning when Simiyu had reportedly gone to collect Napier grass for his cows.

Witnesses say the suspect struck the victim with a blunt object, leading to his death.

The incident sparked outrage among residents, who stormed the suspect’s homestead shortly after the killing. In retaliation, the mob set his house and crops on fire, leaving behind significant destruction.

Family members and neighbours have since condemned the killing, terming it unnecessary and cruel. The suspect’s brother publicly denounced the act and called on authorities to ensure justice is served.

Local residents have also urged for calm, even as police are expected to investigate the incident and take appropriate action against those involved.
