Veteran diplomat and former Cabinet minister Burudi Nabwera was laid to rest at his Sango Farm home in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Nabwera, who died aged 99, was remembered for his contribution to Kenya’s diplomacy, politics, and public service spanning several decades in a burial ceremony attended by political leaders, family members, community elders, and mourners
He made history as Kenya’s first ambassador to the United States and the first permanent representative to the United Nations. He also served as Minister of State in the Office of the President and was the first MP for Lugari Constituency after its creation in 1988.
His career placed him among the prominent figures in Kenya’s early post-independence diplomatic service.

Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera, who regarded the deceased as a political mentor, joined other leaders in paying tribute to his legacy and contribution to the community.
The ceremony also featured calls for political unity among leaders from the Mulembe community ahead of the 2027 general election.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya urged the community to rally behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions, while other leaders called for a united regional political front.
A brief confrontation between Natembeya and Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau also occurred during the ceremony over speaking protocol, momentarily disrupting the proceedings before the program continued.
