Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has suspended four students following an assault incident that occurred at the institution’s MEA 001 Lecture Hall on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Vice Chancellor, Solomon Shibairo, the university confirmed that the students involved in the altercation were identified, arrested, and taken to the institution’s security office shortly after the incident.
According to the communication, statements were recorded from all parties involved, including the students who were assaulted, those accused of carrying out the attack, the lecturer present at the time, and the class representative.
A video obtained by WKT shows a group of students violently attacking others inside a classroom, as a lecturer and fellow students look on during what appears to be an ongoing lesson.
The university further revealed that disciplinary action has already been taken in line with its Students’ Regulations Handbook, resulting in the suspension of the four students implicated in the assault.
Condemning the incident, the university described the act as violence and hooliganism, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful academic environment.
The administration has urged students to remain calm, uphold the spirit of camaraderie, and adhere strictly to university rules and regulations designed to ensure their safety.
The incident has raised concerns over student conduct on campus, with the university reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on violence.
