A family in Munyenya Village, Mukuyu Sub-location, Mautuma Ward in Lugari Constituency is in distress after their seven-year-old son drowned in River Nzoia on Saturday and is yet to be found.

The boy, identified as Khalifan Afufa, was a Grade Two pupil at Golden Valley Academy.

Confirming the incident, Mukuyu Sub-location Assistant Chief Inea Oyuchi said the tragic incident occurred shortly after the minor attended Madrasa classes at Mukonge Mosque.

According to the administrator, Afufa and other children were released for a break at around 11:00 a.m. It was during this time that he, in the company of five other children, went towards River Nzoia. The group was initially chased away from the river but later returned.

Efforts to locate the boy’s body have so far been unsuccessful. By the time of publication, family members, friends, and local residents were still combing the river in search of him.

The incident has cast a sombre mood over the village, with authorities urging parents and guardians to keep a close watch on children, especially around dangerous water bodies.
