Kisumu’s Riat student found dead in forest after alleged kidnapping as police arrest ex-boyfriend

A 21-year-old student from RIAT College has been found dead in a forested area in Riat, Kisumu, days after she was reported missing.

According to police, the student disappeared on the night of April 5 after her last known movements were traced to the Milimani area near Kenya Wildlife Service offices. Concern grew among family members and friends after efforts to reach her proved unsuccessful.

Her decomposing body was later discovered in Riat Forest by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, working alongside officers from Maseno Police Station and Riat Police Post.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had sustained multiple stab wounds, pointing to a violent attack before her body was dumped at the scene.

Police have since arrested a prime suspect believed to be the victim’s former boyfriend. Investigators say the suspect was among the last people seen with the student before her disappearance and had allegedly issued threats to her prior to the incident.

Authorities confirmed that items believed to be crucial to the investigation were recovered during the suspect’s arrest. Detectives are also pursuing additional leads as they seek to establish whether more individuals were involved.

The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents and renewed concern over the safety of young women, with calls mounting for swift justice.
