Kenyan sprint star Ferdinand Omanyala produced a stunning performance to win the men’s 100 metres at the inaugural Addis Ababa Grand Prix, clocking an impressive 9.98 seconds.
Omanyala powered to victory in dominant fashion, becoming the only athlete in the race to dip below the 10-second mark. The sub-10 run marks a significant return to top form for the African record holder and ranks among the fastest times posted globally this season.
The Bungoma-born athletic prodigy had earlier shown promise in the preliminary rounds, winning his semi-final in 10.11 seconds before raising his level in the final to secure a comfortable win.
American sprinter Christopher Borzor finished second in just over 10.1 seconds, while Italy’s Chituru Ali settled for third place after clocking 10.26 seconds.
The Addis Ababa Grand Prix, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour, marked a historic moment as Ethiopia hosted a major international track event, attracting top athletes from across the globe.
For Omanyala, the victory signals a strong start to his 2026 campaign, having opened his season with a 10.19-second run in Stellenbosch. The latest performance underlines his growing sharpness as he builds toward a busy international calendar.
He is now expected to shift focus to the upcoming Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, where he will be aiming to maintain his fine form against stronger competition.
The result reinforces Omanyala’s status as Africa’s fastest man and a key contender on the global sprint stage.
