Bus crew arrested after python found hidden in box at Namanga border

Police have arrested a bus driver and conductor after a live python was discovered concealed inside a box during a routine inspection at Namanga.

According to authorities, the bus was traveling from Dar es Salaam to Nairobi when officers flagged a suspicious package declared as motor vehicle spare parts. Upon opening the box, they found a live python, estimated to be about 13 feet long, carefully hidden inside.

The two suspects were taken into custody at Namanga Police Station as investigations began to determine the origin of the snake and its intended destination.

Officials believe the incident may be linked to illegal wildlife trafficking across the border.

The reptile has since been handed over to Kenya Wildlife Service for safe handling and further assessment. 

Authorities have warned transport operators and the public against engaging in the illegal movement of wildlife, citing serious safety risks and legal consequences.
