A Form Four student at Friends School Kongoni in Likuyani Constituency, Kakamega County, is alleged to have killed his Form Three schoolmate following a dispute whose details remain unclear.
The deceased, identified as Ronnie Wakacha from Makokha Village, was allegedly attacked at the suspect’s home in Marakaru Village after the two left Wakacha’s home together. His grandparents, Selina Kililu and Albert Kililu, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect was a friend who had gone to their home to pick him up.
According to his grandmother, the two were friends who regularly played football together. She said she served them tea before leaving them at home, unaware that the outing would end in tragedy.
“They play football together. He came for him at home and we served them tea. I left them at home,” she said, adding that Wakacha was allegedly hacked with a machete on the head and arms.
David Wamoyo, the father of the suspect, said he found Wakacha critically injured at the gate of their home and rushed him to hospital.
“He was alive but deeply injured,” Wamoyo said.
The two students are reportedly said to have been embroiled in a dispute involving a girl. However, Wamoyo said he understood their disagreement to have been over clothes and a mobile phone.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene after the incident, prompting angry residents to storm his family’s home. The residents set fire to the house and a store, destroying property estimated at Sh500,000.
Mawe Tatu Chief Joseph Shiundu confirmed the incident, condemned the attack and said investigations were underway to establish what led to the deadly confrontation.
