Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, where he is attending the 23rd anniversary commemoration of the late former Vice-President Michael Kijana Wamalwa.

Uhuru is the chief guest at the memorial being held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Wamalwa family’s Milimani home and mausoleum.

The former President is expected to officially launch a new book documenting Wamalwa’s life, political career and legacy. DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, the late vice-president’s younger brother, confirmed that Uhuru had also written the foreword to the book.

The commemoration has brought together a number of prominent political figures, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, former Kitui governor Charity Ngilu and other leaders associated with the opposition.

Kalonzo and other United Opposition principals have already participated in the laying of wreaths at Wamalwa’s gravesite as part of the annual remembrance.
