Journalist hospitalised after attack while covering UDA event in Trans Nzoia

A journalist is recovering in hospital after being violently attacked while covering a political meeting in Cherangany, Trans Nzoia County.

The reporter, identified as George Njoroge of K24, was assaulted on Friday, March 20, 2026, alongside another journalist linked to Standard Group during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) event. The two were on assignment when they were confronted by a group of individuals who reportedly turned hostile.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers demanded that the journalists delete footage they had recorded before physically assaulting them. Videos circulating online captured the chaotic scene, with the injured journalist heard pleading with his attackers as the situation escalated.

The second journalist, who had been filming the incident, was also attacked and nearly lost his equipment before colleagues at the scene intervened.

Njoroge sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he is receiving treatment, while his colleague suffered less severe injuries.

The incident is reported to have occurred in the presence of political leaders and security officers, raising concerns about the safety of journalists covering public events.

The Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) has since condemned the attack, calling for swift investigations and action against those responsible.
