Grade Nine candidate reportedly killed by friend at disco matanga in Likuyani

A Grade Nine candidate at Lukusi Secondary School was hit to death by a friend and fellow student at a disco matanga in Lukusi village, Sango ward, Likuyani constituency, in the early hours of Friday.

The learner’s elder brother, Dan Wasike, says he witnessed the killing. He told West TV’s Joseph Amunya Otieno that the suspect called his brother aside into the darkness and attacked him with a rungu.

“He called him at the side in the darkness and killed him,” Wasike said, adding that attempts to rush the learner to the hospital failed, as he died on the way.

The learner’s parents say they had warned their sons against attending the memorial in the neighborhood because they feared for their safety. The boys, however, slipped out of the house after supper, after telling their parents they were going to bed. The candidate was due to report to school on Saturday.

“We warned them, but they sneaked out after eating supper and lied to us they were going to bed because the candidate was supposed to go to school on Saturday,” Christopher Wesonga, the father, said.
