Storm Kakamega town as residents fault county preparedness

A storm accompanied by heavy rains and strong winds uprooted a large tree along Mumias Road in Kakamega town on Monday, raising questions about the county government’s preparedness for extreme weather.

The fallen tree was photographed beside the road following the storm, which swept through parts of Kakamega town.

Some residents blamed Governor Fernandes Barasa’s administration for what they described as a lack of preparedness to deal with the effects of heavy rains and strong winds.

The incident came as the Kenya Meteorological Department warned of heavy rainfall in Kakamega, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, and Nandi counties, with isolated storms expected in some areas.

The full extent of the damage caused by the storm had not been established by the time of publication. No injuries or fatalities had been confirmed in connection with the fallen tree.
