A pastor in Mlimani area of Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, is seeking answers after his 12-year-old daughter, who reportedly has an intellectual disability, was allegedly sexually abused by a neighbor.
According to the girl’s mother, Rachel Makungu, the incident reportedly occurred on Friday evening when the child was found at the neighbor’s home under circumstances that raised suspicions of sexual abuse.
The mother’s account was corroborated by neighbor Margaret Makonjo, who said Rachel called her at around 7 p.m. while she was preparing vegetables. Makonjo said she rushed to the scene and found the girl without slippers, with her underwear appearing to have been turned inside out.
“We examined the child carefully, and even her father went outside and left us inside the house. When we removed her clothes to examine her, we noticed signs that suggested she might have been sexually assaulted. There was oil around her private parts, and her underwear was wet,” Makonjo told WKT.
However, the accused neighbor, Kennedy Jumba, has denied the allegations, maintaining that the girl had only passed by his home while picking vegetables. He expressed surprise at the accusations, insisting he had not committed the alleged act.
After reporting the matter to Panpaper Police Station, Makungu said the family initially took the child to Mlimani Sub-County Hospital, but they were unable to access medical services amid an ongoing doctors’ strike. They later sought assistance at Siloam Clinic to establish whether the girl had been sexually abused.
As of the time of publication, the family had not provided a medical report confirming whether sexual abuse had occurred. The suspect had also not been arrested.
