Four children have been killed following a brutal attack at a daycare centre in Makindye Division, Kampala, sending shockwaves through the Ugandan capital.
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Christopher Okello Onyu, reportedly gained access to the facility by posing as a parent. He first entered the school offices and briefly spoke with the administrator before stepping outside.
According to reports, the man then locked the gate and launched a violent attack on children inside the daycare.
Teachers raised the alarm as the incident unfolded, but four children had already lost their lives in the attack, which had deeply shaken residents of the upscale Ggaba area.
The suspect attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by a security guard from a nearby church. Angry residents quickly gathered and tried to assault him, but police intervened in time, dispersing the crowd and taking him into custody.
Authorities have since launched investigations into the incident, with the motive behind the attack yet to be established.
The daycare centre remains closed as police continue with inquiries, while families and the wider community mourn the tragic loss of the young victims.
