Transport along the busy Kisumu–Busia highway was disrupted on Thursday morning after protests broke out in Luanda, Vihiga County, following the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
Angry residents took to the streets demanding justice, expressing outrage over the incident that occurred a day earlier in a mall in Kisumu, in which CCTV footage revealed how the senator was attacked by a group of men.
Demonstrators lit bonfires and marched along the highway, bringing traffic to a standstill for nearly two hours. Motorists were forced to seek alternative routes as the road remained impassable, with the protest causing significant disruption to movement in the area.
Protesters carried placards and waved twigs while chanting slogans condemning the assault on the senator. As the crowd swelled, tensions rose, with more residents joining the demonstrations and calling for swift action against those responsible.

Some demonstrators claimed to possess crucial information about the attack and said they were ready to cooperate with investigators. One protester alleged that they knew the individuals involved and had gathered evidence to support their claims, insisting they would not remain silent following the incident.
Senator Osotsi is currently recovering from injuries sustained during the attack at Karen Hospital in Nairobi.
According to reports, the legislator had visited the Acacia area in Kisumu for a haircut before proceeding to a restaurant, where he met a friend and interacted with members of the public. Shortly afterward, a group of armed individuals reportedly confronted him, questioned him about his political position, and then assaulted him.
