Man arrested for allegedly dumping two-month-old infant in river in Vihiga

Police in Vihiga County have arrested a man accused of dumping his two-month-old baby into River Ehedwe near Mbale in a disturbing incident that has shocked residents.

The suspect is currently being held at Mbale Police Station as investigations into the matter continue.

According to preliminary reports, the man, who had separated from the child’s mother, had earlier requested to see the infant. He is said to have gone to a rented house in the Shalom area of Mbale, where he allegedly took the baby from the mother before the incident occurred.

Authorities launched a search operation to recover the infant’s body from the river, but efforts throughout the day were unsuccessful.

Police have also detained the child’s mother, with both parents remaining in custody pending arraignment.

Investigations are ongoing as officers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
