A cloud of grief has settled over Kakamega County following a disturbing incident in which a man allegedly attacked his three young children, leaving one dead and two others critically injured.
The incident is reported to have occurred at the family’s home in Ikolomani, where the suspect, identified as Nathan Shimenga, is said to have turned on the children during a suspected domestic dispute.
In the attack, a three-year-old girl died from her injuries, while her two brothers sustained serious wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they remain under medical care.
Preliminary reports indicate that the incident may have been preceded by tensions between the suspect and his estranged partner, who had reportedly left the home earlier. Neighbours said they were alerted by distress calls from the house, prompting them to rush to the scene, where they found the children injured.
Angry residents reportedly attempted to confront the suspect before police arrived and intervened. Officers rescued him from the scene and placed him under arrest, later taking him to hospital for treatment under tight security.
Police have since launched investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including the events leading up to the attack and the suspect’s state at the time.
Authorities have also called on families to seek peaceful ways of resolving domestic disputes, even as residents continue to demand justice for the victims.
The incident has sparked renewed concern over rising cases of domestic violence in the region, with community leaders urging early intervention and support for families facing conflict to prevent similar tragedies.
