Hundreds of residents on Friday turned up for the Linda Mwananchi grassroots mobilisation tour in Kisii and Nyamira counties as opposition leaders intensified their campaign centred on governance, accountability and citizens’ rights.
The delegation, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, made stopovers in Mosocho, Kisii Town, Keumbu and Keroka. Other leaders accompanying Sifuna included former Chief Justice David Maraga, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata.
Addressing supporters in Mosocho, Sifuna urged Kenyans to remain united in defending the Constitution and demanding better leadership. He said the Linda Mwananchi movement seeks to amplify the voices of ordinary citizens by pushing for good governance, respect for the rule of law, improved service delivery and solutions to the high cost of living and unemployment. He also encouraged wananchi to actively participate in the country’s democratic processes and hold their elected leaders accountable.
The tour was, however, briefly disrupted in Keumbu after a group of youths reportedly hurled stones at the leaders’ convoy, damaging several vehicles. Despite the incident, the leaders proceeded with the remaining rallies and concluded the day’s engagements in Keroka.
Later, reacting to the incident, Sifuna downplayed the attack, saying the tour had still been successful. In a statement shared after the rallies, he said the team had met women in Mosocho, addressed residents in Kisii Town, endured the attack in Keumbu and still completed the tour in Keroka, adding that it had been “a good day” despite the disruption.
The Kisii-Nyamira tour forms part of the Linda Mwananchi movement’s nationwide grassroots campaign as opposition leaders continue to rally support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
