Butere has once again stamped its authority on Kakamega County football after both Butere Boys and Butere Girls were crowned champions of the KSSSA 2026 football championships, completing a memorable double that underlines the town’s growing reputation as a breeding ground for football excellence.
The boys’ final delivered a gripping contest worthy of a county crown. After 90 minutes of intense action failed to separate Butere Boys and Musingu School, the title was decided in a nerve-shredding penalty shootout.
Showing remarkable composure under pressure, Butere Boys emerged 7-6 winners to lift the trophy and cap off a remarkable campaign that saw them navigate a difficult path against some of the county’s most formidable opponents.
For Musingu, it was heartbreak after a spirited display and another county loss in a row to Butere Boys, who see this perfect ending to a campaign defined by resilience, discipline, and an unwavering belief in their ability to conquer the county’s football giants.
Earlier, the girls had set the tone for the celebrations. Defending champions Butere Girls once again proved why they remain the benchmark in school football, edging out a determined Mwira Girls side 1-0 in a tightly contested final. A decisive strike from Farine Christine was enough to separate the two teams as the national champions showcased their trademark composure, tactical discipline, and winning mentality to retain their county crown.
The contrasting victories perfectly captured the essence of Butere’s football culture, grit and endurance from the boys, experience and clinical efficiency from the girls.
