Village elder injured in alleged attack by pastor over motorcycle loan in Lugari

A village elder from Mukuyu ‘A’ in Mukuyu Sub-location, Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, is nursing injuries following an alleged assault by an Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) pastor over a disputed motorcycle loan.

The elder, Nelson Amata, reportedly sustained injuries to his knee, chest, and right hand during the confrontation with Pastor Lweya Tumaini Musumba of ACK St. Marks Parish, Mukuyu.

According to Elder Amata, the dispute arose after Mr. Tumaini borrowed a motorcycle, with the accumulated interest reaching KSh 75,000 by January. The matter was later referred to the Mukuyu Assistant Chief’s office for mediation. However, instead of complying with the agreed process, the pastor allegedly took off with the motorcycle.

A source close to the case said the assistant chief’s office had instructed witnesses to oversee part-payment of the debt, as the pastor claimed to have raised KSh 60,000.

Elder Amata later received a call from a fellow village elder inquiring about his whereabouts, during which he indicated that the pastor had said they were heading to Lumakanda to withdraw the money.

Upon returning home, Amata was informed that both Tumaini and the motorcycle had already left, contrary to instructions that it should remain in place. The pastor allegedly sped off on another motorcycle towards the Rift Valley region, passing through Kipkarren en route to Sella, reportedly intending to pay KSh 65,000 to INUA JAMII (Boost Token) as part of the earlier agreement.

When Amata tried to confront the clergyman, he was attacked and injured in the process. Reliable sources indicate that Mr. Tumaini has since fled to Maseno, believed to be his home area.

Investigations are ongoing, with local security agencies handling the matter.
